THE BAMBILI VILLAGE MINI WATER FALL

Bambili is a village in the Tubah Sub Division of Mezam Division of the North West region of Cameroon. After taking a tour to one of the bushes in Bambili, this area could not be neglected. It is rich in flora and fauna. There exist a small water fall and thick bush on the outskirt of Bambili. This area houses Snakes, Crabs, small mammals and other reptiles. The hilly and bushy nature of this area is a good site for Zoologist and Botanist.

 This area houses diverse species of flora and fauna. Ecological land reclamation is greatly seen here. Angiosperms and Conifers are found here. Fungi, Edible and poisonous fruits are found here. Mammals, Birds and Reptiles are found here. Few Amphibians existing at the base of the water fall are Toads and Frogs. Reptiles from the Black Mamba Snake to various species of Lizards. Birds from the little Sun Bird to Owls and the Guinea Fowl. Mammals exists from Rat Molds, Bats, Squirrels and even Bush Rabbits are found here.

Beautiful scenario for adventure. Ecology can be deeply studied here. These photos were taken in the dry season of 2017. It is much fresher and thicker in the rainy season. Water fills almost every end here in the rainy season.                                                       

The team couldn’t stop enjoying the ecology. Pictures were taken. There will be a visit to the place in the rainy season and critical analysis on the forest flora and fauna will be made.

However due to the water found here at the base, Mosquitoes are inevitable as small stagnant waters here are perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The Culex and Anopheles Mosquitoes are common here.

It should be noted that the climate in this area is tropical. The average temperature of this area is 18 ^oC. The rains in this area are higher in July and August than any other months.

The water here is fresh and clean and some areas here contain very good and natural source of drinkable water

Field work

FIELD WORK
Going out for field work and adventure is the best part of “Maimo and Zoology”. You can be part. The phobia of snakes and other creatures should not be a disturbing factor as there are ways to prevent bites and attacks.
Before going to the field
However before going out, there are necessary requirements needed. These are but a few of the requirements needed. They all have their functions. Putting on a good pair of long boots and long trousers is strongly advisable and recommended. These will help prevent and protect your feets from snake bites and also serves as comfort for walking on the stones and bushes.
Some items needed are:
Stop watch: This is an important item used in the field. It's used in timing activities, getting and calculating breathing rates of organisms and many other time-related activities.
Binoculars/Telescope: Of course we know that there are places your legs can't take you to but your eyes can. This item also helps in giving a general survey of the area from an elevated angle.
Analogue Cell phone: Analogue phone precisely because it has a general better network reception. It is physically stronger and easier to handle. Also less expensive. It is very ok for forest, field and bush work.
Compass: Used for location and direction.
Digital Camera: This is used to capture organisms, flora and fauna and also take videos in the field.
Power Bank: This is just back up power . If you have a very good battery in your phone and camera, then  power bank won't really be necessary.
Whistle: Used in communicating with organisms. Used by specialist. However, it is not very necessary.
Hand sanitizer/ spirit: This is an important item. It is used in hand washing especially after handling poisonous and harmful objects and organisms.
First aid box: You can't tell when you will get injured. Never go out to the field without a first aid box. It should be small but yet contain all the necessary items in case of an emmergency.

 

At the field   

Rest is required after walking and exploring for about 4 hours.

Once in a while, I like taking my Dog with me. Very wise dog indeed. He helps with the work most often. Especially in detecting mammals and other organisms that vibrate and are motion sensitive. It is very sensitive to Snakes so he has earned a place by my site when we are on an adventure in a place where we can go together.

Back from the field

Data analysis is carried out. Further study of fauna behavior is made and also from the observations gotten, an inference is made.

A conclusion is then drawn.
